been looking at different options for my car recently and cant make up my mind whether to go the flip front route, have read other posts and their are very mixed opinions, one of the main things i wanna know is who uses a flip front with inner wings or do these not exist, surely you get loads of crap thrown into your engine bay without them? oh also whats the best way to disconnect lights etc any pics greatly appreciated, cheers

you hit the nail on the head gav, crap gets thrown up all over the place, I only have to go down the road in the wet and everythings covered in mud etc.
On the other hand when you have a flip front you have so much more access and with the front removed its a doddle to do anything.
Go for it but buy a pressure washer..
Oh and don't forget to tighten everything down before you set off on a blast, I didn't and the car stopped but the front didn't?

First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

mine never got too mucky i found, occasionally i used a gentle hosing over with the engine running

when i first got the car it had some inner wings replicating the std ones, you could always knock some of these up

all my lights are connected up via a trailer plug for when you take the front end off totally. If you go the flip route i seriously recommend a 2 piece, its a right pain in the cock having to flip the whole thing to check oil/water etc.

i'm gonna replace mine with a steel removeable front, just have it bolted on but can be removed for major engine surgery, then just use a FG bonnet with pins for day to day stuff.

here's a pic of mine, you can see the trailer plug on the left of the bulkhead, and how much road spunk has been thrown up the inner wings/engine in the last 2 weeks while ive been using to go to work and back.

ive not got a flip front but i always thought of the idea of using trailer mudgards under wings to stop muck being thrown everywhere.

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

A mate of mine had a flip front, we fitted plastic shields roughly where the inner wings would have been, improved matters no end.

Well my engine is white with salt atm, and I have a standard front end.

If you're going to do it deffo by a two piece one as Bud said. As well as being better for general everyday use, it also means you don't have to cut the front arches; they never look good when cut.
