I have recently had problems where my car will lose all power and stop i.e. foot to floor and car slows down and dies.
I have replaced all the the electrical components thinking due to it only occuring when the engine has warmed up I assumed that it may be the Ignition module or breakdown in the leads etc! However this is not the case. I am now suspecting the fuel pressure regulator. I think that may be it is allowing air into the fuel line!?!

Any ideas or suggestions for testing etc would be greatly appreciated.

Mine did exactly the problem you describe! (god i had a lot of teething troubles to start, good way to learn though!)

I traced it to the engine to body earth strap. Didnt seem to be a likely cause but it was exactly the same symptoms.

Failing that if possible wait till it cuts out, jump out and check the fuel return into the tank. If its still putting out loads of fuel then the regulator/pump's fine.

Also had problems with an old pump not managing to put enough fuel out. that will show the same as the above.

I have just recently added another Bad boy earthing strap as i was experiencing trouble with the charging system and altenator. I need to do a run about in it to see what the fuel is like in the return! thanks for your help will keep you posted!

I have concerns maybe that it is the fact that i have a standard fuel tank with standard outlet pipe and home made return. It has also come to my attention that there maybe fuel vapourisation in the float chamber. Other than that im stumped I have ordered a new fuel pressure reg. and hoping that I have not wasted my money just eliminating an item under the bonnet. The car would not start today as i have been away for a couple of weeks so hope fully I can try things tomorrow!

Try an inline filter before the carb and see what happens. There really should be no problems starting at all.

I suggest giving the carb the once over. If it hasnt already been done then its not a pointless exercise even if it doesnt cure the problem.

Checking all plumbing to the carb too, see posts in the "how to" section.

You haven't changed the plenum to carb gasket recently have you?

Cos some don't have the extra hole in them that is needed to pressure the float chamber, and the car dies on boost.
