Hey guys, I am fairly new to Turbo's. What what is the best setup for a 1275 T3 that I would like to run 7-10 psi. I need the engine to be streetable but have a wild side.
What pistons would you use? I know about forged, etc.
What crank?
What cam?
This is open for opinions.
Any help will be appreciated.

Also, would an intercooler be very effective in this setup? If so, any recomendations?
Thanks,
Christian

Pistons the most important thing is getting large dished pistons to get compression ratio down. 15cc are the norm, there are now also 18cc pistons available.

Crankshaft the standard A+ 1275 crank with do fine.

Cam of choice at the moment is the Avonbar phase 2.

Intercooler is very worthwhile to allow more boost to be run. If you use the spec above with a low compression engine you should get away with 10psi, but not much more than that.

intercooler like tom says & i praise is the best single item to fit after the turbo!!

an intercooler is not the icing on the cake its MORE cake, as one top turbo guru quoted.

LOL!

I'd have said the HIF44 would be good for over 300hp...

For example- in an Montestro turbo...

Are you sure it would be able to cope with "mixture variances" I have been told this is a problem when going to high power figures

Edited by paul wiginton on 28th Dec, 2005.

I seriously doubt it!

You tune the carburettor for your max boost. What it does mean is it runs rich at low boost - eg if you tuned for 30psi, it's unlikely you'd be able to potter about on 10psi - it'd be running sooooo rich.

The SU does (and i can only assume it's down to the constant depression design) make changes for boost pressure much more than other carburettors. eg - if you had a mini set up on a dellorto to run 30psi, it's unlikely it'd even run at 20psi, it'd be throwing so much fuel in there.

Without question, Matt Woods still has the largest power output on this site. He has no problems with mixture variances. Hearsay often comes from those without knowledge; and when proved incorrect or untrue, any future claims or advice from said person must surely be in question also *wink*

i agree with matt on this one (with my limited knowlage) re what spec, 9 psi has been run without problems for time on feebles engine and made good reliable power it was otherwise standard just setup on roaling road and well serviced. i DO recomend an intercooler/slight head work to be safe like i am doing tho or if your building the engine up from scratch then go the whole hog and get dished pistons etc, but i sugest you focus on the strength of the engine/gearbox first.

my 2p*tongue*
