Hey all, J here....

About 4 years ago, i first mentioned the topic of a 998 Turbo - everyone said i was Nuts, and not to bother...."Get a Metro Turbo" they said....

I'm over here in Sunny Oz, not a Metro Turbo to be seen, unless you import your own....

Anyway, i built my own, "Janspeed" style, Turbo over the clutch housing....

Old Pics Here...
http://www.portaloz.tv/james/turbo_pics.htm

Currently Running an IHI RHF-5 Turbo (Ball-bearing froma Mazda Familia GTX) and a 12G1316 head, ported by DRMINI, and running some Big valves....
carb / plenum is stock-ish Metro turbo, and bottom end is Hepolite pistons, ARP Rod Bolts and shot-peened and balanced rods...
Cam is a Graham Russel Engineering RE13T (Custom - one off!!) and rockers are stock 998 ...

Ignition is Nissan Pulsar N12 - (DRMINI Mods again)
Currently running water injection and NO intercooler for an Honest, at the wheels 80+HP still running very rich, and a tune session is due in a few weeks....

Feel free to drop me an email, kazjim@carchat.com.au and chat anytime !

Yeep, dont go there anymore, all that bullshit between big al, and quicksilver and such just turned me off ....

Yea, the eninge in the pics is about 85HP @ wheels at 10Psi, new setup is a little different.... Hoping for about 90@wheels and able to run up to 16/20PSi ....

biggest hurdle at the moment is detonation, as well as the standard 30' + degree days we are having has slowed my progress down a little....

More pics later

Ok, I've updated the page with pics I've just taken.....

http://www.portaloz.tv/james/turbo_pics.htm

shows the NEW turbo and head setup .....

Yes, the block has been pocketed to take the huge exhaust valves and the 0.0495" life that GR has given this cam !

I dunno, it was about 2 maybe 3 years back ..... i just got sick of all the crap going on...... wasnt about cars anymore.. it was about who is selling cars at ths side of the road without a license and stuff ......
Just got stupid, and everyone was just out to argue... So i quit.. asked Don to change my password so i couldnt log back in, and I'm done with it.....

Anyway, Ive found a LOCAL mini community that are really good, all Aussies (and a few Kiwis) but mostly, they are a good mix of Restorers all the way through to Maniacs that are putting 4EFTE engines and such into the CLubman body..... so a little Turbo 998 isnt going to make too many waves over here !

But, its still a fun street car !

Betwix Harrogate and York

I guess an intercooler and some mapped ignition will help stop the detonation.

We currently run 18psi and have around 140 bananas (TM word for bhp) using a standard 1275 head; so you motor must have plwnty of potential.

Good work! like the rocker cover,

How do you find the RE13 for turbo use? I'm thinking about using one of these but haven't heard of one on a turbo motor until now. Do you know how its different from an ordinary RE13? just a wider LCA perhaps?

As I said, the RE-13T is a Graham Russel Engineering "Custom" as far as I'm aware, I've got the only one !

The standard RE-13 is a pretty wild little beast, comaprable to a Kent 286 or more ! - but due to the nice LCA and ramp angles, its a lot more "Civilised" and drivable

There are race engines over here getting over 180 Flywheel HP running the RE-13 ....

I'm pretty soggy under 2700, with full throttle being able to be used from about 3000 and from there it just climbs - I redline at 7600, but have had it at 8500 for some very short bursts .. on the race-track !

I'd reccoment the RE-13T to anyone with a blown A-series, but as usual, Your Milage may vary !

Sorry, no email... he knows cams, but not 'puters....

You may want to have a Chat to him about the Turbo variant...not sure if KC got the specs for that one... I'm pretty sure I've got the prototype . . . .

hi kazjim just wondering what sort of valve you are using for your water/meth injection. I have the same sort of set up with an IHI turbo and water/meth. Problem i am having is the engine is sucking the water/meth thru when it is not on boost. It is great for dragging but round town it is a pain in the ass. I am looking for some sort of 12v switching valve.

Caution !!!! Slippery when boosting

i have found a solutuion to my problem. I am now using a check valve from a fish tank pump which prevents back flow. Works well but will have to see how it handles the methanol

well looks like i'll be back to the dyno again then. i really need to get the carbs properly sorted. I still have a few things i cold do to the engine. An external wastegate wouldn't be a bad idea. BTW where can i see the head number then i can post it up.

well its differently been built for power. I've wound the boost back on it for street driving and for its warrent of fitness. I will be putting in switchable boost soon. Just rebuilding the dash at the moment, keeping on top of a little rust and pricing up some new tyres. I can't imagine why.

Well hopefully the more i pull stuff to bits the more i will find out about this engine. Gotta get it ready for its first drag race at the beginning of september
