Is anyone out there running a T2 using the Mirage kit and if so how much clearance is there between the turbo and the bulkhead?

I'm toying over going down the T2 route, as it seems more sensible for a road car (I'm not after silly power figures) however one thing I'd like to do is lag the turbine to keep the heat down and I was wandering if there was enought space with the mirage kit to fit some lagging or does the turbo only clear the bulkhead by a few mm?

Hi rob, i dont know the answer to you questions but....

what i do know is you will soon be hungry for more power after you have a taste of a turbos torque!

& therefor i would urge you to build in mind for this my friend.

most peeps have fallen into this trap me included.

It has more clearance than a few mm, I dont have any pictures at the moment.

If it was only a couple of mil there the engine would have to be solid mounted

I've lagged mine, and although it does make things a bit more awkward, its not impossible...

I tried to post some pics but the server told me off

When we had Nic's car in at work, there was a reasonable 1/2 inch between the turbo and teh bulkhead, but that was last year so don't hold me to it!!

ive plenty of clearence between my bulkhead, i managed to fit it in on the std engine steady but its best to run a lengthened one, or the adjustable one available from mini specialists

im not running any lagging on my turbo or bulkhead, i personanlly dont think it matters too much

i see your from bristol, you werent parked up in a mcd's carpark this (sun) morning were you? i saw a boc

Does the Mirage have to be fitted with a tilted engine installation?

Wouldnt this pool oil in the front part of the rocker cover?

I donated, but somehow didn't get the label! :(

its only a marginal tilt, legthening of the engine steady about 3/4 of an inch at the most, nothing to worry about

Can I avoid tilting it by using an mpi subframe? I need the engine to be perfectly vertical in order to fit the intercooler on top of the rocker cover...

i would of thought so, i did have it in without lengthening the steady, but it was pointed out that when the mounts wear it could touch

this is the clearance as std, however im sure it looked bigger than the pic shows

i wouldnt worry about the tilt of the engine as i put it, its not really tilting it as such, it doesnt make things that much higher, i cant explain what i mean but not that much difference is made

ill try and take some measurements for you when the engine goes back in

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

its probably equivelent to going down a steady incline and you would worry to much about that would you *smiley*

in fact as the back end squats down i'd guess that it would end up level *happy*

Thanks Nic, that's a great help, I also had a look at your guides on T2 fitting and the MegaJolt fitting in the "FAQ/Knowledge" section and they been a wealth of info.

Not guilty, I was visiting my folks last weekend and working on their project car.
