Hey... passed my driving test and within a week i had bought a 1988 Red Austin Mini in mint condition...and i want to make it better but dont no where to start...any advice? It got copper bits on it, fog lights, centre wheel caps, steering wheel, mats etc etc..... dont want to go mod-ing mad.

Im just getting used to driving it...afetr week of having it it needed a new battery and jumped it a tot of 3 times!!!

A big prob is condensation....... I hear lots of minis have this prob, i am on street parking so no shelter unfortunatly...and my mini has a sun roof, so its like its rainning inside. Quite funny... but anything i can do about this other than renting a garage?!

Im defo going to be a regular on here.........

Cheers.... Bec.x

Welcome to the forum...................possibly the best in the world......

As for your sunroof problem, you could seal it shut using clear silicone sealant. This would mean you won't be able to open it, but at least you won't get wet driving around.
Lots of minis suffer from damp interiors, you can buy a "moisture absorbing" kit from DIY or hardware shops, this contains crystals that absorb the moisture out of the air, and are very useful in Minis to help keep the interior dry and free from condensation.

It may also be worth adding your location into your profile, that way if you need help or are looking for places to buy parts from etc people that live nearby may be able to help or offer advice on the best places to use.

Cheers

If you have problems with moisture/misting up windows then halfords sell mist repelent that you put on the inside of your windows. You can't see it but even if your breath on it up close it wont mist up. Lasts for a month or two and you only use a dribble. The bottle cost about £3.50.

After a week of owning mine I needed a new head gasket!, then a battery, then a new gearbox, then a new windscreen...

Oh yeah, speaking of Halfords, has anyone noticed that the guys that work in there REALLY don't know what they're talking about? Do they breed them that way?

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

hellow becca & welcome!

A nice cheap tip for the condensation is ........ > SALT!
mind you iam a cheap skate!*laughing**laughing**laughing*

get a couple of kilos of salt and place it in an empty ice cream tub or simlar and and leave it in the mini,
then before you drive off pop the lid back on.

ever few days or so depending on the weather
dry these out in the airing cupboard at home
alternate!

no condencation in mine at all and i have been using this method for years!*wink*

works great for long term storage as well

but first you must make sure ther is NO water ingress if ther is (sort it!)

a LIL fishing village on the coast - Newcastle Upon Tyne

dammit steve i wanted to say that old caravan trick !as for the sun roof, if you undo the alen bolts under the plastic (inside) you can lift the outer seal away from the roof.....run in some clear silicone and tighten back down. bobs ya uncle i would personally get it looked at by a proffesional. water kills minis they rot before your eyes so anything to keep inside dry is what you need ...

Welcome to the best mini website in the world by the way *wink*

Rich

Fair enough, but its the ones who don't know that are giving out the advice. I listend to a guy there once who was telling a customer how to wire up his tacho to his alternator...

I just knew there would be someone who works in Halfords on here though, just my luck!

My foot/mouth extraction is in progress...

When my mini was outside it also used to get filled with condensation.

You can get some magic crystals in a container from woolworths that draw in the moisture. (cant think what their called)

It's probobly just fancy salt but it did the trick
