leeds/wakefield.

i just pulled my front engine to bits and find the said bush stuck on the tail ,i am using the MSS floating bush type idler ,so i have no idea how long its been seized as it would still run on the inside of the gear.this is the first time ive ever had one stick fast.
however i did boil it up in oil beofre fitting , i wonder if i altered anty clearances by boiling it.
it drifted off easy enough but needs another, a bit of bronze marking on the crank but a quick rub with fine emery it was gone so no damage to the hardened crank .

any ideas? ,not that i'm overly worried i'm doing something wrong as its the first time its happened and also the first time i used this floating bush .
so don't know what to make of them yet.

i got one of the first floating ones off keith .. that one seized up ... it was the radi on the crank being slightly different on the turbo crank, but as TD did mention to him .. but he wasa haveing none of it ... anyway i little tickle on the lathe had it sorted ..

leeds/wakefield.

it seamed an ok fit on the crank when i tried it as new, not to tight and not too slack ,
i know what your saying though ,
i'll mave to acctually measure the new one up and check the running clearances.

Ive had a keith Calver one for 3 years, touch wood no probs yet, but i did have to machine it to accept the turbo crank radius. Keith did say it may need machining. Because of what its made of it didnt need soaking in oil as it is self lubricating.
Hope this is of use.
Paul

I seriously doubt it!

Definately needs the chamfer adding for the radius found on the 'turbo' or A+ cranks...
Maybe you didn't add enough?
I got mine such that i could ram in onto the crank, and it'd still spin.

minw wasn 't jammed tight up against the shoulder that the spacer shim sits on ,there was a small gap ,thats how i got something in there to start to knock it off.
dave , are you talking about a chamfer at this point ? .

mine had deffor seized all along ,black and ugly all the way along it ,and corresponding marks on the crank.

Kinda - there is a radius on the crank, so i put a chamfer onto the edge that would contact this radius.

Maybe your boiling it in oil has had a negative effect?

Then I understand.. I've got the bush in my engine as well. Looked great when I opened it this last winter.
I guess Mark can tell you when it was installed..

yes words, you silly scrot!....................

I'll give you a rough one for him and he can fill in the rest.

The damaged end (on the right for those that haven't seen one before) was the end in the primary gear up against the oil holes in the gear, AND NOT THE OTHER end where people seem to get problems.

No machine was done on it.

other than that we have no idea why it did this, do it look like yours Carl??

Cant really coment more than what hoggy origanally put!! There were some tiny bronze shavings around the oil holes on the primary gear but cant work out why it had worn around the step on the crank where the bush runs??

For those who havent seen one this is how it should look (although you can still see the worn part!) The clutch was still operating fine as the bush spins in the primary gear and on the crank so would'nt have known about this if i i had decided not to strip the engine.

Old post

But my floating idler has just siezed after approx 600 miles (cause slipping clutch I think)

Any info on the radius size mentioned as I never modded mine.

Edit/ forgot to mention when I got the primary of I had half the bush in the primary, the other half left on the crank:cool:

So what's the general opinion on these? I've got a bit of pitting on my primary bush. I understand thank there isn't a problem if it's chamfered to accept the turbo crank? Cheers Ron

Well Ron, i ended up sticking the floating bush into the gear with bearing fit after it seized for the second time, it must be still working fine as iv'e had no clutch problems and the engines been in there 3 years now,
