hi,
im rebuilding my engine and wondered if i would need a center main strap and could somebody please explain what they are used for. i want to be running about 140 ish bhp.

my second question is what is the difference between a diaphram and a piston dump valve or a grp A.

A centre main strap bolts on top of the centre main bearing housing to help make it more rigid. It is a good idea really on any performance build engine, moreso as it is a cheap modification to perform.

Do the centre main strap - they are dirt cheap to buy and the machining of the centre cap is very strait forward. The machine shop will certainly not charge much for it.

On a 3 bearing crank any extra support is more than welcome!

minispares strap & extra long bolts around 8 quid

when having it machined have it decked to the minimum with beingh flat

this should end up aroun 42 to 43 mm from the btm of the cap to the machined face on top!

the bolts supplied with this kit are just right!

juffer as stated i would get it done, i have done on all of my performance engines,.....that and arp rod bolts....the reason it is done is under load (or high revs) the crank flex`s and you end up blowing big end shells or if you are unlucky like me you send an end cap through your gearbox / block / radiator / aldon dizzy / get the picture :) cheap mod that can save you a bomb
