Just wondered if anyone has any experience of the MiniSpares uprated rubber cones for the suspension.

I've done all the normal mods and did not know if these were any good.

Cheers.

if it is the poly type rubbers / bushes they are supposed to be better, and make the car more "stiff" they also last alot longer than the rubber counter part, and dont perrish.

i've tried a few solutions in the conespring front. I've had std ones, albeit quiet old, which were hard and unforgiving.

I then moved onto some innospec aftermarket ones, these made the car grip like a bitch (far better than ANYTHING else i've tried, were talking lightyears in terms of grip), but they wernt upto a decent build quality.

I then put some red-dots on (minispares road/rally conesprings), these were wollowey (still got them on the back due to a failure of some other cones) and i found that no damper setting on my gaz adjustables would contain this wollowey'ness (sorry for nonsense words, but i dont know how else to describe it).

After the red dot performace was a bit mixed, i tried some other aftermarket coilspring replacements. These failed (many have, dont get them unless they are from minispares/minispeed, i'll link up the source of the minispeed ones if its necessary/wanted). I've still got the front ones on, but im hardly using the car, so cba to change them till i convert to a flip front.

All tried with 13" wheels, std cones on 1.5 neg fixed bottom arms. Everything else was tested with fully adjustable suspension (front and rear) with gaz dampers and setup properly for 13" wheels.

I've seen the future and tbh its Pie

I've been using the red-dots on the hilcilimber and they were a good improvement from the yelllow-dots.

I've managed to get a set of polly springs which we're going to experiment with, they look rock hard.

innospec ones were ones which were supplied by a forum member on minifinity, they had very poor build quality and sometimes 'failed' were the rubber actually split internally when loaded up, but some were ok (bit hit and miss). Was obvious when they worked or not as one of the hi-los would need massive amounts of adjusting to make the car level. I had them on mine till one collapsed, so i removed them for safety sake.

Thanks for the info. Are the red dots better than std ones or are they not worth the money?

Thanks.

in my personal opinion, they are NOT worth the £200 for a car set. They are better, but not that much. A few others may disagree with me, but to me taking in account of the benefits (better ride) and downers (soft ride/slight loss of traction) are put down by the price.

i havent personally tried them, but everyone i've spoken to who has fitted new std items hasnt ever complained about them. Concidering u can get them for around 25quid a corner its the cheapest route when replacing them. The front ones on my 94 car were so shagged it was silly they literally cant have been moving at all, and i took them off a good few years ago (i think they were 8 years old when removed). I think the recomended replacement is at 5or6 year, but may have to check on that.

sorry if im rehashing old/irrelevant info but....to harden up the std cones, they just need a larger surface area in relation to the cone, if you give them a bigger platform to work against they will be much much firmer.

for example, i the miglia lads run (well used to anyway) metal discs between the cone and donut about an inch wider than the hilo.

I was considering new std cones, but read somewhere the late Rover cones were softer than the old ones. Didn't want a softer ride as I use the car on the track quite a bit. If you buy a std cone now, what spec is it? This is what led me down the red dot option. Another problem with the red dots is getting the car low enough. I think you have to modify the Hi-Los to get track lowered cars.

Don't the Miglias run the competition version of Minispares cones? Someone told me they take them out after each race to maintain there spring rate. Urban myth has it Peter Baldwin can tell if a set have 'gone off' between qualifying and the race!!

I do know that Max Hunter was having trouble at one Miglia meeting, he was something like a second down on lap time so fitted new standard cones (I think) problem solved.

I seriously doubt it!
