santa brought one of my girls a wireless router,
it says plug it into the dsl filter with one lead on the fone line , then use the other from the router back into my computer, but the lead they supply to go into my computer dosn't fit , i am assuming they mean put it into a usb port , but its a different fitting , is it because mines old and the new lead is up to date, also it dosn't say what to do with my existing modem.i am using wanadoo broadband
am i making sence??.

Is it a wireless router and modem in one, or just a router
?

sounds like (i think its called) an ethernet connection

i think you need a network card in the pc, there could be one there already. Its an area that looks like the normal phone line connection but is a slightly different fit.

dont worry about the modem, that is no longer needed

or you could get a usb wireless widget that just plugs in and use the pc wirelessly

........I think....

Your going to need an Ethernet card in your PC if you don't already have one.
Centre Connector.

im running the same set up

you dont need the wanadoo thing anymore

do you have an ethernet lead?

look for an ethernet connection on the back of your computer, the symbol is a line with 2 squares below it and one on top

not the best pic but look at this:

this shows the connections on my laptop

on the right is the ethernet connection, middle is modem phone line, end is 2x usb ports

you either want to run an ethernet lead from the router to your pc

-or if you havent got one of those fit a network card, get a wireless usb thing that will allow you to connect to the router wirelessly

you can either get something like this and run it wirelessly (but will requiring openoing up the computer, but its quite easy)
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?NOV-54GPCI

or just plug this into your usb port http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?NOV-54USB

or use an ethernet cable with this:
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?NOV-320XR1

the wireless connection available is yours, click on it and connect to it, job done
