in a3 leon or golf

not sure if its worth going for higher price of a tdi and then save on mpg when she has a 40 mile round trip every day

I've got a Golf SDI 1.9 and it returns about 55-60mpg. It's the TDI engine without the turbo and very cheap to insure.
I've heard stories about the clutches on the turbo cars going bad very early in the cars life but haven't known of any personally.
The Golf is one of the best cars I've owned so far and I'd have another for sure.

Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe.

Not very helpful, but a mate of mine has a Mk4 Golf 1.6 and it is very economical, especially on a run, I think he gets above 40mpg from it. As you say, may be worth considering, as the TDI cars do carry a hefty price premium................
I have driven it and to be honest it went a lot better than I was expecting it to, given the "bulk" of modern VW's.
