i have a verto clutch and by the way some of you have talked about them they are rubbish. so can i convert a verto to a non-verto clutch or what would be the best verto clutch to use for 120bhp 10psi

If in Doubt, go flat out !!!

If you change to non verto you will have to change everything icl flywheel. Well worth it though dude.

Its only a bit of metal. If it blows it blows!

A verto is far from rubbish. It's an excellent choice for a near stock or lightly modified engine, and has a really light pedal for its torque capacity.

However - run over 10psi of boost (approching 115lb ft) and you'll discover the shortfalls.

If you are in this area - or planning to be - then you need to upgrade. Simple Choice is this:
Ultralight flywheel - with appropriate ring-gear for your starter.
270s backplate (or billet) With lug height set at 23.5mm
AP road/Rally friction plate
'Grey' diaphram.
6 Driving straps
3 off backplate bolts and lock washers
3 off driving strap to flywheel bolts and locktabs.
Pre-verto flywheel bolt
Pre-verto flywheel washer

You'll also need a pre-verto clutch arm, clutch arm pin and split pin, pushrod, pushrod pin and split pin, release bearing, slave cyl (although the Verto one is the same bore so wil suffice) Slave cyl bolts (3/8 unc i think) etc, etc, etc...

Basically - you're best off loking at a breakers yard or small/wanted ads for a complete flywheel housing cover (or 'wok' as it's nicknamed).

Occasionally, you see peeps selling complete assemblies on ebay; this can work out pretty well.

i have just purchased my phase 2 cam and im planning on having port and gas flow head work done. i have various other bits like centre main strap, ultra light duplex gears ect....im hoping to run 10 psi of boost.

What i didn't want was to put all of this togeather and have the clutch to slip. i think i would cry. so as far as i can understand the verto clutch is good for 10 psi and 115lb of torque. has any body got the same setup as me? what are you using?

cheers

p.s cheer turbodave that helps a great deal if i decide to change.

If in Doubt, go flat out !!!

Benross has a comparable setup, his supposedly uprated verto clutch slips.

Enough said........

pretty much the same setup as me aswell, killed a standard verto turbo clutch in a day at avon park. it did hold for a month or 2 prior to that at 120lb/ft though.

I've got a standard pre-verto flywheel and backplate here if you dont want to splash out on an ultralight jobby. not far from you either.

There you go then, flywheel and backplate from Bud, new clutch plate (race rally type) and grey spring, also worth using a new clutch release arm and pin (about £9) along with your standard slave cylinder and casings, new clutch release bearing and plunger (£10) source the pushrod second hand, job done.................

i run the same setup and currently looking into the same problems. Unfortunatly its goiing to be borderline with a setup like this. A few companys sell an uprated cover thats good for around 120Lb/ft. The sensible idea would be to switch but that is a bit of a pain.
