Ive heard its better to lock the box in 2nd and 3rd instead of 1st and 4th, just wanting clarification on this....

Im struggling like a woman trying to get it to lock both gears at once, someone care to shed some light on this (pretty please).

Cheers in advance

I can't think of any reason that it is better to lock it in 2nd and 3rd rather than 1st and 4th? I have always done it 1st and 4th personally and have never had a problem.

You need to disconnect the gear selector from the bellcranks in the bottom of the gearbox. To do this, remove the diff covers and remove the diff from the box if you haven't already. Then you should be able to slide the outer sleeve outwards slightly, and then rotate the selector rod anti clockwise to disengage from the bellcranks.

Once that is done, you can then manually slide the synchro hubs to engage 1st and 4th (or 2nd and 3rd if you really want).

The gearbox is then locked up, off you go.

1st and 4th afaik, i think 2-3 would put more load on the box. Ask mr dodd if your that worried about it, he is literally the a-series box god. www.specialsitminiforums.com
