Hi every one looks like a real good site.
I'm about to start my project in my gap year before university, i've had a mini for 2 years and been saving for 2 years to turbocharge my mini!
I'm hoping to get the MED 1293 turbo kit, and put on a T25 turbo on it.
Just wondering what basics i need to do first i.e does the front subframe need stregnthing if so how? just further welding on joints and seams?

thanks. mark

Hi buddy, best thing to do is to get reading, all the answers you will require are on this site!

Is it not really neccessary to strengthen the front subframe, it is quite rigid as standard anyway. One modification you may consider is to drill and bolt through the subframe and bulkhead to tie the bulkhead to the subframe, below where the turbo box sits.

That's an interesting idea Tom - have you put any reinforcing plates onto the inside of the bulkhead or would this not really be necessary ?

I used a ally strip between the bulkhead and subframe to fill the gap, then drilled through and bolted it up, using large washers (2") under each bolt inside the car.

There is a picture up on here somewhere showing it, can't remember where though.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

mines the same as toms but i used i peice of fire retardent plastic from the food industry

i doubled skinned my box this cuts down on the heat transfer into the cab!

i used 3mm thick by 25mm strip around the edges and placed another plate over the top giving me the double skin

thanks for the advice guys, with the T2 turbo do u still need a bulkhead box? I thought the advantage of the t2 is that there were no body mods?

If you use the mirage manifold kit you can get away without cutting the bulkhead.

If you use the std manifold you will need to cut the bulkhead, whether it is a T2 or T3.

The extra pipe isn't currently for anything. It is a legacy of using the injection mini fuel lines, my car is an injection bodyshell and so has all the correct mountings etc underneath, it makes a very neat job of the installation to use these pipes. The third one on the injection cars is used for the breather emissions rubbish, I left in there just in case I need an extra line in the future, maybe as an additional return line to give more return capacity, or possibly to site a remote reservoir of water for water injection or intercooler sprays in the future.
