...if you have the outlet from your cyl head tapped straight into your top-hose??? (no heater)

I'm going for a 'no'.

Peeps agree?

i agree, under starting before the stat opens the water will route through the heater output and into the top hose making a route for water to circulate. Presuming of course that you dont have a bypass ala metro/latemini

Ha ha ha !

I'm glad you used the word 'did' in the sentence describing your ownership of a Slag.

Fancy going to all the effort of designing a great engine like that - and then putting a POS cooling system on it!

I'd say no as well... The is now a giant hole between both holes of the thermostat.

i was driving with drilled holes in thermostat last season and my engine was running to cold all the time. even in the hot summer time i had less than 60C on the high way driving. during the "normal" town driving was max. 70C

i will try without holes this season.

no holes for me = faster warm up time:) I haven't had a hole for a while, (enough or my personal life though!) and like hoggy says most people have the heater on the head open any way, which would help movment up that way.

the no holes option is ok well and good but....... i have mine piped up exactley like dave is proposing to

with out the holes on a 74 deg stat, faster warm up fine! theres a but with my engine ...

it always had a tendency for the temps to go bordering up to the 90 to 100 c mark giving it some bongo!

with 6 / 6mm holes slower warm up but the temp is now FULLY controlled with the stat

i suspect that it may well be one of those blocks ?

thats my engine*wink*

Yes ben that's a weird one, i was going to say you need another or a bigger rad, but that all must be ok as you can with the holes keep things under control. very strange mate.

Maybe the stats no good?

I've noticed that the temp can get too low with the drilled holes too, but iI still like to stick a small (about 1mm) hole to help get rid of any trapped air under the stat.
