I run an 18Ah (redtop type) battery. I have no alternator and have a starter battery.

Great question. I'm looking for the smallest and lightest possible battery for my N/A raceMini. How few amps can you get away with? On 13th Jul, 2012 Ben H said:
Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem. |

Well I measured the current to run my car. Just to run the ignition and fuelpump and the revcounter (with a light on!) it takes 4Amps.

dont forget that you will need a special charger too Only if you run it to totally flat...just keep them charged up fully when not in use, mine are ten years old now. Jim..yes. Jon On 21st Jan, 2011 fastcarl said:

Ive been using a Red Top 15 for road and race for 2 years- no probs. I do keep it topped up with a conditioning charger when not in use and I also disconnect it.
I seriously doubt it! |

Yes its vital to keep these babies topped up. If they are going to stand for a while the best chargers are the little multistage models from DMS and others. These charge at around a couple of amps and then go into constant voltage mode where they just keep the battery fully topped up and ready for use.

I use a Red Top 15 with a race alternator. Its fine if you use minimum electric, no good if you've want to play some megga sound sytem with the wipers and heater on. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c248/spe...er1/mini007.jpg

Mines got a red top 25. I use my mini on the road at the moment, and it seems fine, load of starting power, and driving with the lights on and wipers going etc is all OK. I just use it as normal, no charging etc. Put, I have no tunes in my car. I dont think it be any good if you had a 'phat' sound system Edited by mini300bhp on 7th Jan, 2006. Its only a bit of metal. If it blows it blows!
