hi guys
names stu and i have ambitiously decided to do a turbo as my first project. it seems im learnin all the time so if i ask some dumb questions jus bear with me cheers.

heres a few for starts lol

1.I really want a front mounted intercooler but the distributor gets in the way, im not affraid of modifying the body to accomidate it either.
i was just wondering how other people have sorted it?

2.I work at an engine remanufactures and have a lot of contacts in the land rover world. do u think a td5 intercooler would be sufficiant or do i need something bigger ?

3. Turbos: has anyone ever used a t1? if not is there any reason y not?

i know these are a little full-on and i appologise!

my project has only jus got started so i need some bits if anyone wants rid (for reasonable prices lol) let us konw.

basicly turbo stuff
ive got all the bottem end so:
head
manifolds
turbo
plenum
and carb

any help would be hot
cheers guys

ps i dont have any recent pics so will post as soon as

firstly WELCOME !
Q1 some peeps extend the front end by a few inches, if you are using a side mounted rad, you can fit the 2wd cosworth intercooler in the front, below the dizzy.
Q2 some peeps do use the landrover intercoolers, as long as they flow well, and are efficient, go 4 it.
Q3 never heard of a T1 normal metro turbos are T3, and you can get some serious power out of em....some lads use T2 as they spool up alot quicker, i dont know much about T2 but many on hear do.......if in doubt use the search button....... also ask as many questionms as you like in the help needed section

once again, welcome to the family !

Rich

Hello and welcome.

Turbo dave is the man to talk to about intercoolers, if my memory serves me correctly i believe the landrover td5 item is pretty good.

First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

hello

you could run a 1600 maestro distributor cap which is a side exit and a smaller profile, however i doubt it would give you enough clearance. The best way would be to fit mapped ignition, such as a megajolt unit (do a search and a few posts will come up) this will get rid of the dizzy completely and you next problem will be the alternator)

take a look at jimsters pics, he is running a td5 intercooler, and also a flipfront to try and make it fit in

is there such thing as a t1? a t2 such as renault 5, or nissan 200sx/sylvia t25 are worth some thought

Welcome. Best thing you can do is read the FAQ / tech / knowledge sections. Also, familiarise yourself with the search facility. There is a lot of info here - and if you show that you've made an attempt to search, folks are usually more receptive *wink*

Best thing to do for a front-mounted Rad is to use a dizzy cap where the leads come out the side, to use a dizzyless ignition system, or to put a 'curve' in your radiator so it follows the shape of the grille and gives vital clearance for the dizzy.

I'm a big fan of cossie intercoolers. I'm only running 7psi at the moment, and there's not much lag, and everything stays cool (although i've only driven it about 2 miles)

fits well too:

(p.s. the bonnet does shut properly, its the front grille which is wrong!)
