Does anyone remember a feature, on I believe it was a Australian roof chop turbo mini? It was running a T25 and claimed it had run mid 12's on road tyres ! Unfortunately is was written off on the way to the 1/4 mile drag strip.
Any ideas what mag and issue please.

wrong car.
the oz car ran 12.67 but it was on narrow slicks iirc.
ain't it always the case these cars either never run again or just dissapear.

god i'm a sceptic,lol.

Strange thing is - if I (or anyone here) wrapped their mini up big time; at some point, that engine is going to find its way into another mini.

This one never did.

I also recall it was sucking through a HS carb, into a T25, and had no intercooler of any kind.

It's a misunderstanding - because you linked to a page where the Jamaican mini was being discussed. I initally thought the same as arl - that you were mistaking the jamaian and Australian minis.
I then figured that maybe it was mentioned on that page - and sure enough, it is.
For clarification then - we've got two 'turbo' minis in the 12's, but have yet to see a timeslip, or even speeds and times over the 1/8th & 1/4 for either....

Just read that feature again, I think its all BOLLOCKS personally.

I seriously doubt it!

I remember thinking back then how it was a little far fetched - espeially as turbo's were still only doing 15's at the time...

Now,
I still think it's a little far fetched - what with the story and all.
I recall someone once had a leaf or a bird - or something set off at the track once; basically the 1/4 came up significantly quicker than it had ever done before - or since!

IMO, quoted (claimed) times are useless and to be largely ignored without times and speeds at the 1/8th and 1/4.

Carl - just for reference, for a mid 12 run in a mini, what would be some typical speeds and times at the 1/8th and 1/4 ???

iv heard of this 12sec mini from here , yes i think it was written of , and also i thought it was supercharged but im probly totally wrong.

I'm sure you agree that it seems odd that it was written off soooooo badly that the engine couldn't even be fitted to another mini ever again...

Of course if Vegard would pull his finger out and scan in the article , it'd be easier for you to use as a reminder for folks as you're asking around...

Crap Dave. I didn't see/think of that.. I'll do it as fast as I can get hold of a scanner/copyer..

It said that the car sported a Sprintex supercharger at first, but was fitted with a turbo afterwards.

the owner was Ian Alenzark and ows a comapny in NSW in OZ call Zaks Carbs, real nice guy, i visitied him not so long ago in Alstonville and he did write it off in a drag race, he said once it did run a 13.6 but he believes it not a tru reading even he said it was not that quick, he did run mid 13s often though.

it was an oz made 850 MK1 with a turbo T25 not a metro setup though all custome but blow through the metro turb carb.
it was very light and deseamed body and gtters, i have the article at hoem if you would like a copy of it?
