Couldn't find a lot in the search apart from references to corky bells book on force induction. So here goes.

I am looking at giving my old metro turbo motor a health check before putting it back in the mini etc. Apart from the Hayes manual, is there any other books for recommended reading before i start to take then engine apart?

Please bear in mind that i am not an engineer / mechanic etc so this type of thing is virgin territory *tongue* for me.

Cheers

The David Vizard bible is great for WHAT to do to your engine, but there is not a lot on HOW to do it.

The book Wil recommends looks good, I have often considered buying that one myself.

Yep I have both the hamil books and they have useful stuff like bearing and piston and ring clearances that arn't mentioned in the vizard book.

I was also going to say that book that Will reccomended. Vizard was carefull not to go into that as 'building' is another subject (as witnessed by this book - LOL!)

Another pointer I suppose, is to look in the Haynes manual for clearances relating to the engine. If there is a clearance quoted, generally you need to check it.

As a start;

Ring gaps in bore
Crank Endfloat
Cam Endfloat
Bearing clearances maybe?(Plastigauge)
Piston crown to deck height
