WELL IM IN THE PROCESS OF TURBOING MY 1380, IM CURRENTLY USING A 276 KENT CAM, I NOTICE THAT YOU ARE USING A 286 IN YOURS, JUST WONDERING WHAT THE PULL AWAY IS LIKE AT LOW RPM,S AND WHEN THE BLOWER COMES IN, IM STILL PONDERING WEATHER TO USE MY 276 OR GO FOR A SPECIAL TURBO CAM, BETTER JUST POINT OUT THAT IM RUNNING A 2.95 DIFF ON A SCCR BOX ON 13'S.

I am using Avonbar Phase 2 cam. I had previously Vmax turbo cam that was very close to MD286 judging by the timing measurements that I did.

The next cam that I will try (whenever that happens) is Swiftune SW10. It is an emission cleaned version of MD286. Basically what they did was open up the LCA which is beneficial for turbo engines.

With your transmission you have a very tall total ratio in 1st gear (2,95 x 2,5) which equals to 2nd gear in normal gearboxes. Heavy 13" wheels will increase the feel of laziness. Since the engine is 1380 that will compensate a lot compared to 1275 engine. All in all, your may have to use some clutch slipping when taking off. I hope that you DON`t use a sintered plate...

I have no specific problems with low rpm pickup, you can find some old RR graphs at my homepage. Standard or close to standard cams will produce very nice power with higher boost so it is not necesary to go to special grinds. It?s hard to give any better advice since I have no experience with SCCR boxes and cannot comment on how they feel in turbo engines.

cheers for that, i was also thinking of the phase 2 cam as well, its just that i have a 276 cam fitted already and couldnt be bothered to split the engine again but i think i might as it will have to come out for the turbo box to be cut in.

yes the gearing is tall but its the way i like it, i have to slip the clutch already but you get use to it, im running a ap comp plate with a orange diaphram these i will retain and see if they slip it isnt as if they are to difficult to change when the engine is in.

Yes, the cam swap is tricky in the car, especially considering that the followers are recommended to be replaced with the cam ! Dead easy with ancient 1275S block but all others get a bit difficult.

You could have a go with 276 cam, it is an excellent fast road cam and does not ruin the idle. 1380 would probably run quite nice. I was a bit diappointed with Phase 2 cam, I expected more from it. Besides, everyone seems eager to tear their engines apart at least once a year and update the package...

Clutch then, I had the same package originally and it worked perfectly 21000 miles. I then took the drivetrain apart, fitted new rally plate and it slipped. There was some oil on the new plate, don?t know how I managed to oil it during assembly. Anyway, to play safe I put in a new plate and a grey diaphragm. With two heavy passengers and 15 psi boost there is a hint of slipping but otherwise no problems.
