Simple question. Do you think the flame catcher is required, if the crank case breather is into a catch tank?

I can see why when the breather is fed into the carb, that a flame catcher is required, but do I still need it?

no not needed in to a catch tank

but good catch tank will return to the sump and have internal baffle plate in it

Not sure I like the idea of putting the catch tank back into the sump. The crap collects in out catch tank I don't want back in the engine.

a good catch tank will have a vent with a filter on the top to breather so no shit will get in but you can fit a magnet in the bottom of the tank so the return oil will run over the magnet be for it goes back to the sump

I can see why that would be necessaary for a race or rally scenario. I think I will keep it simple though.

I quite like the return to the sump idea, but I don't need any more little projects to add to the build.
