well spent a hour or so on the lathe with a gertain bit of hexy brass and made up a new union utilising a hydaulic brake switch to activate the fuel pump.

basicaly one end goes into my inch extension out of the block then fit the oil suplly pipe then screw the new union on the end which suplies oil to the turbo aswell as the oil gauge and the switch which is mounted on the side.

im going to use the swicth to earth out the relay when the engine starts so to start up the pump aswell im going to fit an inline switch to bypass this so you can prime carb after hot runs ect.

quiet easy to make realy and should pose some saftey after a colision.

will post a pic when i get time.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

A far easier way of doing this is to just use a 5 pin changeover relay, and the standard oil pressure switch that triggers at around 5psi.

If you wire it up in a certain way, you can have it so that when you turn the ignition switch to "crank" position, this primes your fuel pump to allow the engine to start, then once the oil pressure has risen, this switches the relay over and allows the pump to run as normal. In the event of loss of oil pressure your fuel pump stops.

This is how the Metro turbos were originally arranged.

what if you crash and you engine doesnt stop!!!
if i was you id fit an inertia switch too, better safe than sorrry.

ive wired a pump up like tom says on my last mini and it worked brilliantly.
*smiley*

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

I believe that you aren't allowed to 'not' use an inertia switch on modern vehicles...
I'll always run one. Always.

It is good for those without a 'bling' ecu to control the fuel pump of course - as it means you can sit there with the ignition on (engine off) and not have the pump whirring away...

i was going to go down oil pressure switch route but the making of my union would still be the same but decided on the hydraulic brake switch route as they switch with oil pressure and not the other way round which i thought would be easier to wire up.

but yes if the engine didnt stop then they still would be a problem but still better than no switch at all, but the inetia switch idea is also a bloody good idea but aint got a clue were to get one.
