As for shocks avo are definatly seems the best to fit however it is all personal preference. However if you go for gaz spax or konis then you shouldnt really have a problem.

If you are lowing the car quite a bit then you will have to buy the shorter dampeners (and cut the rear arches if your really going to lower the car). As for the rest of the suspension setup go for adjustable tie rods and adjustable negitive camber and castor brackets. Then get the car setup using a four wheel alignment rig. That should sort most of your problems out.

Also a decent set of tyres is always good preferably of the yoko road legal slick *tongue*

negative camber gives the tyre a better contact patch when cornering, this is due to the top of the tyre leaning in at the top when negative camber is applied.under cornering forces the top of the tyre is forced outward thus giving a better contact patch on the road.1/8 inch=1/2 degree of neg camber.remember when lowering your car u will start to make your camber more negative about 1/2 degree when lowered to max
neg camber lower arms have the balljoint locating hole spaced further toward the wheel thus pushing the top of the wheel inwards

tie rods alter the amount of self centring of the steering wheel
referred to as castor angle, more castor =more self centring, less=less centring.normal setting is 3 degrees every 1/10 inch=1degree adjustment.as for setting up u need to go to a performance tyre or mini specialist whoe has a four wheel laser alignment rig with a castor, camber and kpi gauge
hope this helps all the best

Sory to hijack, but what figures would people aim for with al the ajustable, kit, as numbers seem to vary wildly depending who you talk too. I asume it depends on wheel choice also.
