As a few of you know, at the moment I am looking into buying a house.

Obviously with the number of cars I own, garage space is one of the top considerations on the list.

So just a few general questions-

How big is a Mini end to end?
And side to side?

And how about say an average size hatchback?

Within my price range most of the garages are single width or slightly wider, what width gives enough room to be able to work round the side of a car?

Cheers.....

South Staffs

mini dimensions

length: 3.054m
width: 1.41m

In an ideal world you want as much space as possible either side for working, but I think if you had 0.75m to work at the side it would be fine.

measured mine for iain the other day

159cm wide
305cm long

i've worked with clio's and r5's etc in a std size garage and its hardwork, a mini is about the biggest i'd consider without a slightly wider/double garage

i always end up working on my 306 outside

i reckon i've probably got 45cm each side of the mini

space at the front and back is never really a problem, even with benches and tool chest etc at the end

One I am looking at currently is 13' wide. Can anyone with a "std" size single garage measure the width for me?

m8 of mine has a std garage, and from memory its 9' wide which makes for tight work around the sides of the mini. I'm also looking at building a garage (from Compton Garages) and a 13' wide one would give you a nice space down each side and is likely to be the size i'd go for - and about 20-25' long as i'd like some workshop space too.

Mate thats very wide!!

Mines 7'10" wide by 18'10" long. The door is 7' wide.

Its a pain working in it to be honest, even worse when the trailer arrives as i'll only have about a foot at 1 side of the trailer and the other touching. If i didnt have the trailer i'd have 14" each side type thing.

I measured it the other day to make sure a car trailer would fit *smiley*

My sister had a double garage put up, it was wooden and was about half that i think. that was assembled onto a concrete base we put down. Its a good size and looks smart as well.

Mike, think tom's on about garages already at the houses he's thinking of buying *smiley*

Betwix Harrogate and York

My double garage is only 14' wide and 20' long, with and extra 4' extention at the back (raised by about 2")

So that sound fab to me Tom.

my mini is in a standard sized garage (single small concreete thingy bob) and if it was roaling i would push it out side to do any work on it no matter what the weather is saying. thats my opinion, but its not so i have to be thankfull its dry and i have to do everything in the garage.

Tom my single garage is 8' x 16'.
In the past Ive built my Sprint in there, rolled it over to spray underneath, rolled it back down and done a full respray in there.
Its also where I built John Hastons shell.
Paul

I seriously doubt it!
