A little while ago i went to see a well known engine builder who was building his own engine. While we were talking he mentioned he'd ofset bored it to 1310 and had almost the original amount of metal inbetween 2 & 3 Is this commen? And what are your thoughts on it?

Forgot to mention he did say you could only do it from 1275 and not 1293

Which way did he offset bore? As far as I can remember, in standard 1293 bore, the amount of material between the bores is very similar.

My thoughts are: why bore a block 1310 from 1275...

Well know engine builder talks rubbish.

thats a plus 40 over bore actual works out at 1312cc not 1310cc i bet he is of the old school!

he is talking BS you cant offset bore on that small amount of metal to come off!

You can from 1275 to 1312, as mentioned, but there's still no point in doing it...

It is technically possible to offset bore that small. In my autograss days we were only allowed to bore +60 on a 998 engine, so the common mod was to offset the bore forwards as much as possible, the thinking being that the increased moment on the crank might give you a shade more torque. No way of measuring it, but every little helps....especially when you are a 6'1" big hefty fucker racing against some little tiny runt.........

More torque, and more friction losses between piston and cylinder... Which won? :)

yes like you say theres no point at all on the above thread

thinking about it the center bores would be off set to each other 2mm

wether they actually did do it to your spec is another point.*wink*
