i have my turbo engine stripped and going for a +20 overbore and bsically just want to know what parts i would be needed new and/or uprated. I plan to use the car for road use only and wont be putting the boost over 10 psi ( for the time being anyway *wink* ).
I plan to fit a avonbar phase 2 cam and avonbar oil pump, get a rebuilt box, not sure about head yet but im unsure about pistons. Whats the cheapest decent piston i can get? and i take it id need atleast 10cc dish. What is the best timing gear to use? i am on a budget so dont want to pay out for a belt set when i dont really need one. is the duplex kit or the kent silent chain type up to the job? What other parts are essential? i dont have heaps of money to spend but want to do a decent job and have the engine reliable upto the job.

Thanks for looking

Dan

my engine was a budget build, i used AE 21253 pistons, ph2 cam, minispares vernier duplex chain setup.
As for a head you cant go wrong with one of morspeeds st2 ones for £250, he'll open out the chambers to whatever cc you need within reason, mine are at 29cc.

Those pistons look more in my price range but are they suitable for turbo use? and withstand highish boost? I notice they run quite a high CR but i take it as you said if I got the chambers in the head opened up this would solve the problem?

cheers

they're not specific turbo pistons but they've stood 10psi for quite a while now, you can enlarge the dish in them aswell to drop the CR a bit.

i have those pistons, ive ran 16 on them regularly

and accidently 22 once!!!

they have been machined slightly to give a bigger dish, but im not sure how much

where would i get them machined to decrease CR? could an engine shop do this?

Right tonight im going to order those pistons, avonbar ph2 cam kit and oil pump.

Where is the cheapest place to get a new crank or reconditioned one? My crank is really pitted and scored on the taper end so reckkon i need a new one.

Is there any advantage to wedging, nitrocarburising etc a turbo crank? or do they not rev high enough for these mods to be worthwhile.

Thanks for the responses

Dan

It is up to you if you want to get your crank re-worked, although I can say for sure that plenty of people on here use standard cranks with no mods needed. Me included.

A dynamic balance of the full rotating assy is always a good idea though.

could i use the pistons without getting them machined and jst get chambers opened up more?

also before i order the ph2 cam is it a worthwhile investment buying the kit or should i just buy the cam on its own?
