Hi all,

I have finally got some pistons my local engineers sourced some suitable ones, Basically can i fit the new pistons and gudgeon pins to my original con rods or should i get the engineering company to do it?

In the haynes manual it says to get an engineering company to do it and i wondered if its too hard to do it my self?

Thanks matt

its not a hard job but will only take an engineer a couple of minutes so shudnt cost much so if your not confident get him to do it.

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

There is a 'how to' somewhere on the site....or maybe it is the mini forum, that shows you how to do it your self involving a blowtorch, but if i remember correctly you only have one chance to get the pin in before it cools and jams in place.

Ill try find the link for you........ But personally i would rather pay to get it done professionally.

i work at an engineers and thats how we do it. heat the small ends up sufficiently then the pins jus slide in. move the rods till there in the middle, quickly though or they do get stuck.
The other way is to press them in but this puts stress on the small end.
