Depends what you use if you. The phase 3 will be a bit of a pain to drive on the road as its more of a race cam. However if your looking at road and track days then the phase 2 will suit you just fine |

i have used all three phases of the Avonbar cam, even the MG item. the phase 1 was raceyer than the MG,the 2 seemed not disimilar to the 1 in drivability terms and the 3 is an animal!

Its a phase 2 all the way in my book on a billet, the billet cam will give you 4 to 6 BHP more than a reprofiled cam with the added benefit of X drilled. all the followers are oil fed.

so why does a billet cam give 4 to 6 hp more? Perhaps the difference in valve ramp due to the larger base circle? but I don't see the gain being as much as that though. Maybe Steve is talking in Baldwins. Edited by Sprocket on 3rd Jun, 2012. On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:

well I would think the profile would be the same, and the only difference would be rocker geometry, but thats not really the cam giving more power.... its the rocker geometry being fucked and giving less.

With a larger (or smaller depending on perspective) base circle, for the same lift and duration, the ramp has to take on a different shape. On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:

I was under the assumtion that cam grinders used the same "template" which inclues the bace circle, and gust ground the cam enough to get the desired profile whilst getting a clean cam nose. On 28th Aug, 2011 Kean said:
