engine stand adaptor plates

Do any companies make the adaptor plates to fit a mini block on a engine stand?

I was watching ont on ebay but its getting quite expensive and i dont know any welders that could make me one.

I thought one could be made quite easily from a block of steel.

I remember TurboDave posting some pictures of one he made for himself - maybe he could help you?

Do a search for 'stand' or 'adaptor' and you should find the post...

just drill 2 holes in the engine stand plate and use your 'mechanical fuel pump' bolts to attach it.


I thought 'no way', but it can take the weight of a whole engine, and is cheap.

i seriously cant believe my eyes!!

talk about painting it red and selling it on ebay, the whole engine stand doesnt cost £40 and theres still 2 hours left.

ill even post some pics up of how i did it for free.

plus, this way the stand isnt in the way for fitting ancillaries etc.

I know i feel like a mug, but i was hypo when i bid!! (diabetic and my blood sugars dropped so i lack energy to the brain etc...) well thats my excuse anyway, i just hope someone out bids me!!!

Hes had them on before and i tried emailing him to get a price to buy one outside ebay but he never replied.

Weve all been there so just learn from it!!

I drunkenly bid on a bronze statue last year for £90 because it looked "cool" (im a student that can barely afford to eat...)

then theres a centre main strap i bid £15 on...? they are about 60p to make LOL!

as soon as ebay comes on logic goes out the window!

Im a student myself so I'm on a bit of a budget rebuilding my mini, I often have the choice food or mini parts...........

..... and it always boils down to mini parts, which isnt a good plan the best of times but even worse when diabetic like me!!!

Oh well i think ill try make my own bracket, cheers for the replies guys

i didn't use any adapters or drill any holes
i bolted on to the engine at the flywheel end after i had removed the fly wheel
you cant rotate it through 360 but 320 is all you need

Yeah i was offered one for £49 incl p&p ............. but i think ill give it a miss!!

I take it i would just use the oil return bolts to hold the block to the stand. (using joeybaby83's method)
How much weight can the 2 bolts safely hold before they break or do damage to the threads/block?

ive had a complete engine bar the exhaust manifold.

I'm in the process of making up an engine stand adaptor inspired by the one on ebay, but slightly simplified. I've got myself some steel: 60mm diameter pipe 4mm thick) and a 10mm plate to go on the end, and I’ve got some beer to bribe a welder with (I won't be doing it myself as it's beyond me & my 150 amp MIG).

Now before I get the two bits of metal welded together I need to know will a straight forward butt joint be strong enough or will I need to make a 60mm hole in the steel plate for the tube to slot into?

If required I can post a few pics of my design, just no coping it and flogging copies on the bay.

Butt joint will do fine, grind a bit of an angled prep onto the end of the pipe, also a 150A mig will do the job just fine, turn the bugger up to full and use 0.8mm wire.

I made a stand to support a bodyshell with my Snap-on 150A MIG, the engine isn't that heavy you know!

No need to drill the holes. Same mounting point but use one of the horizontal slots on the plate with some big fat washers. The plate does go on at a slight angle but theres enough play in the locking pin for it to almost sit straight anyway

Here's a picture of the finished article in glorious hammerite red (it the engine stand that's hammerite not the MG) if I was to make another one, I'd make it shorter so the engine sits closer to the stand and I wouldn't bother drilling so many holes in it for the locating pin.
