OK my Sprint ride height is pretty low but how low can you go on the front without risking popping the top balljoint out?
Can you tell me how low yours are in measurement from sill seam line to road surface please?
Paul

I seriously doubt it!

Not sure on any figures, but Id imagine that miglias have them at either the lowest possible, or the optimum height, so might be a good rule to measure by...?

Im sure ive read about owners moving the pivot point of the top arm up higher in the subframe - quite what this does to the suspension geometry i dont know....

the first thign to "go" when lowering the car is the knuckle joint, it fouls the top arm and snapps, experienced this myself ona seriously low mini with no bump stops... so relievign the top arm would be a good place to start, unless ofcource you run coilovers!

This is a route I have been thinking about actually ( I thought it was my idea, didnt realise others were doing it).
What it does is change the angle of the outermost part of the top arm where the balljoint goes through, which stops the top balljoint popping out.

I seriously doubt it!

It also changes your effective spring rate at the front... running the arm at such a steep angle is giving a very soft, and un-progressive springrate. Bringing the arm more level will improve matters condiderably.
I believe Wil and Ben, (the twin-turbo men*laughing*) were talking about doing this before stuffing the last mini. Maybe they've done it on this rebuild?

We never did it but did think about it.

We currently run the car with the front arms horizontal at rest. To get this low we have had to cut the bumstop out completly, raise the shock mounting point, buy specially made very short dampers and mosify the hi-lows to go lower and still hve them on the minimum.

Nothing has broken yet.

i've been setting my height to the engine, in that i always set the height so that the driveshafts are level/parallel with the ground. Purely for minimising transmission losses.

I've seen the future and tbh its Pie

I'm I-m not completely mistaken, Miglia guys machine the top suspension joint downwards so to speak. The hub gets "lower". Maybe the isn't allowed in Miglias, but Special saloon guys does it I know... It takes a lot of money to do this at least...

dogmatix minus look so low because they have a couple of inches chopped out of the shell making the shell itself lower than an ordinary mini, the suspension is the same
