New to turbos. Completely green.

Why does the turbo need that flexible elbow joint on the exhaust downpipe? Can I simply have a local exhaust shop make for me an angled rigid downpipe? OR am I asking for failure/breakage in a short time.

Using the stock metro turbo manifolds and also standard T3 turbo.

I would imagne to stop the clamp starting blowing.....

Remember the engines rock on rubber mounts.

In a mini - and assuming you have poly-bushed / Hard rubbers in your engine steady and the 'ultimate' one; then I'm pretty sure you won't need the balljoint. An LCB doesn't have one afterall.
In a metro however - you DEFINATELY need it...

What is very important though - is that you run a single 'bracket' between the diff casing/output flanges to the bottom of the downpipe. This keeps everything in check and avoids any breakage.

I'll be doing away with the ball-joint this year *wink*

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

my exaust pipe ball joint has been placed into position and now welded solid,

as it was causing me problems moving near the body work flexing too much!

i then wraped the exaust with bandage to cool the noise & heat down it works a treat.
