I want a new Banjo end for my T3 oil feed pipe to convert it for us on my T2. Anyone know what exactly it is that I need?

Ben tried his local place and they didn't have one and I trid mine with similar results.

Or Iain, do you sell a hose to do it?

Cheers

Wil

I think you want a -4 x 7/16 banjo, assuming your hose is -4 braided type.

Not very sunny swanage

just to echo what has been said about minipart... really really good service, and bloody cheap as well.... not used em for a oil feed, but have had a load of bits from them, service and quality bloody good!

And on the 7th day........... God created turbochargers!

When I tried to get it sorted the bloke told me it was an M12 hydraulic fitting, but did not have a banjo to fit the pipe.

Its from a Renault 5. When I say it was an M12 the bloke got an M12 fitting and screwed it in. All the imperial fittingg he tried would not fit. This seems strange now that two people have said 7/16. However as it is a french car I am more inclined to think that the fitting is metric.

I'm confused now.

Garrett used Imperial on the older genration units (pre GT). I know this - because I have the Garrett drawings for several T2 units... *wink*

There are TWO sizes:
7/16 x 24tpi
1/2" x 20tpi

I'm going to say - that if an M12 went in - then you have the rarer 1/2" fitting.

Hence, if he got a union to screw in, then he was probably trying M12x0.75... The metric pitch equiv. of 20tpi is 0.787mm. Only reason it screwed in is beacause the thread is 0.7mm smaller on diameter than the correct one - hence the pitch error is being taken by the radial slop between the male and female thread forms...

Chances are - you'll get away with it... Bear in mind though; it ain't right... Nay; it's a bodge. *frown*

Do consider sending a drawing to a machine shop and get them to knock something up that is RIGHT using a decent-grade 1/2" shouldered bolt as a start point (saves money having them mill a hex head onto a piece of bar stock).
Also bear in mind, you will need a 'harder to find' banjo fitting (I assume you're using a banjo?) as this needs to be -4, but be able to take a 1/2" fitting!
I'm 100% sure you won't be able to use the banjo end that was on your T3 pipe - I think the T3 banjo bolt is 7/16 diamter...

So - consider getting a banjo union from the company that will be making your new hose, and drilling it out to 1/2" as an easier option to searching the world for one. Clean it thoroughly, then get your hydraulics place to sort you out a new hose...

Cheers for that Dave.

It's definately needs a bigger banjo than the T3. But drilling a 7/16" out to 1/2" won't leave much recess inside the banjo.

I'll see what I can get done.

Bugger, nothing is easy is it.

p.s. see my other post on T2 oil return.

thought i'd bring this one back up rather than starting a new one and getting told to use the search button...lol

I've already got a braided T3 oil feed and will be using a T2 on the new lump...Is the T3 banjo bolt 7/16" dia, if it is then will i get away with just getting one of the 7/16 x 24tpi banjo's to fit my new T2, or will i need a new end on my braided line?

sorry if its a soft question, just wanted to check before i went out and ordered stuff that wouldn;t work.

I can supply you a screw in adapter that is right for the turbo (7/16 x 24tpi) and a male Jic -4 the other end for £8. I normally come of th turbo with a 45 deg bend fitting on the end of the hose.

I have a T2 from a diesel Renault Megane/Laguna and it has an M10x1mm (metric fine) female thread for oil feed.

For future reference to anybody comming accross this problem in the future..

what are the A/R's of that turbo please?

Just to bring this back up once again... I too have a braided oil feed for the T3, and I'm fitting a T2 and as mentioned, the banjo on the T3 hose is too small. Can you still get a conversion bit to convert, as my braided hose just cost me £50 from minispares *surprised* and I dont want it to be useless *oh well*

when i did mine i eventually found out that my T2 was M12x1.5 so i got an M12 bolt and drilled it out and filed the shoulder to turn it into a banjo. then i drilled out my T3 banjo end so the bolt would go through.

got loads of spur marks all over my garage floor though *wink*

Thanks for that nick.
There must be an easier way surely, I've got the original banjo bolt for the T2 turbo, its just too big for the T3 banjo on the braided pipe.

Possibly get a bigger end fitted to the pipe, or an adapter bolt to convert?

Let me check for you as the turbo is here in my bedroom (obviously)..
A/R's are .48 and .35 also the compressor outlet points forward in the same axis as the inlet, should make for some neat plumbing.

I bought the correct banjo bolts/unions from Think Automotive. Then I cut the end off the T3 pipe and put the new end on.
