Guys, if money was not so much of a problem, which rods would you fit to a high-boost turbo engine?
I donated, but somehow didn't get the label! :( |

if money wass no object i'd have my cranks made by cosworth in the same material they used to use a few years ago untill the rules were changed, and have the overall mass minimal.

Well i wouldn't bother with any fancy rods for your high boost engine. You need good rods and light weight pistons for a high reving engine NOT for an engine that revs upto maybe 6500 but with high boost. Its the Loads associated with the rpm that stretches rods , bolts , etc. The extra load on the power stroke puts the rod in compression anyway. My engine was built with no compremise on what money was spent and i have pretty standard rods (A+).

And the material changes were to outlaw Berylium allows and i dont think this was used in the cranks. Was certainly used in some piston rings (i've got a set). The stuff is radiactive and not healthy for the poor guys who have to machine it. you thinking of berilium alloy ,used for brake calipers, i'm talking about some seriously fancy steels previously used for F1 cranks untill the mat was banned on cost grounds. BTW Peter i have a spanking set of 1275 Arrow rods for S big ends, and i'm not selling, lol.never no ,wont do it so stop harping on. i suppose you could allways use terillium carbonic alloys. just like Buzz Lightyear.. carl |

It's true that they did use berilium alloyed with aluminium for brake calipers, but thats not what i'm thinking of. They also used it in steels. These were used a lot in the valve train and may also have been used for the cranks. I don't know of any materials that have been banned in F1 on cost grounds only health and safety.
