Hi,

I have been recommended to use the Micro Dynamics EMS 5 Ignition system.

Has anyone had any experience with this kit? Any advice on the kit would be much appreciated.

Cheers, Tim *happy*

It is a hunk of junk. I looked into this a while back.

MegaJolt is a much more powerful device that is superior to the Microdynamics box.

The EMS 5 is found on www.avonbar.co.uk, and is at the bottom of the page in the Ignition section.

Who supplies complete Megajolt systems?

Many thanks, Tim *wink*

There are a few places to supply you a MegaJolt, I used Brent Picasso in the states who did a lot of the development work on it. In the UK I have heard good things about a guy called Bill Shurvington. Or closer to home our own "AlexF2003" is offering built ECU's for sale.

How big a job is fitting a Megajolt setup?

Also, what bit and pieces do you actually need for the complete conversion apart from the ECU that AlexF2003 can supply?

Cheers, Tim *smiley*

Cheers.

Looks quite an involved job, or at least it would certainly keep me busy for a while.

Does anyone know what ignition system the Metro turbo challenge cars used? Or is it just a good old dizzy modified for race?

Cheers, Tim *happy*

I think the megajolt is possibly been the easiest part of my engine build, and provides amazing control.

If you have basic soldering skills it'll be a sinch

And if you don't have soldering skills, buy a ready-built ECU, and then a bit of straightforward wiring, and off you go.

The parts needed are a Ford EDIS crank sensor, coil pack, ignition module. All of these are easily available from a scrapyard, they were fitted to lots of Ford cars from the early to mid 1990's, for example Fiestas, Escorts, Orions, Sierras.

You then need a trigger wheel of some sort to give the ECU a speed signal and TDC reference.

I bought one of these a few months ago I used the wrong ignition coil and f***d two units (under warranty) the third worked but when it switched as the boost raised and lowered the van shuddered.
I tried every thing that the manufacturer suggested but the thing was shite.

Ps I still have it you want it cheap*laughing* I will put it on ebay some day I may just quote what the manufacturer says not what I found myself.

Excellent, sounds like a trip to the scrappies should see most of the bits sorted.

As far as setting up goes, how do you go about setting up the timing correct for optimum performance? Does the ECU do this itself, or is there more to it?

Many thanks for your help.

Tim *wink*
