Still got a mini with a k series mounted in the front. Sat collecting dust in the garage*happy* But i'm really after something for 1/4m fun. But have been pointed in a nice direction by a post by Evolution (cheers evo) http://www.rovertech.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=46432 Now i have a spare k frame sat in the garage aswell. And the k mini has welded in cage*oh well* The idea being to mount the other frame in the back using an adapted cage then useing the mgf pg1 gearbox with cable shifter the 20v gti/tt/leon/skoda turbo engine mounts to the pg1 box*surprised* I've read that these are a easily tuned and are reliable engine but just after some feelings on the engine really and if anyone can see some problems with the mid mounted set up???

they are 1.8 litre's.
not mega reliable if you just chip them, I know of several which have popped pistons and/or put a rod through the block.

Great engines for cheap power, though

lol glad i inspired :)

mite be worth a PM or e-mail to the reyland chaps, they may be forthcomeing with info, or they may try flog you an adaptor kit(which will no doubt be well made) would be worth a pm just to make sure there useing the PG1 gearbox *wink*

my humble experience with these engines is standard with a few well chosen mod's and a re-map some very healthy power is avaliable. shame the car's they come in as standard are so heavy!

mate you can pick up a 20v 2.3 ltr turbo out of most volvo 850`s the engine size is roughly the same as the vw stuff (quite petit for volvo) and you get 225 bannanas before you wind her up !! got an 855 2.3 t5 which has managed 150mph not on a road of course ! *wink* bags n bags of torque its mint !! so imagine that puppy in a mini shell JESUS !!!

if you go onto www.vpcuk.org (iam a user there to Volvo performance club uk) they are sticking RICA kits on the engines and getting serious torque and bhp....aslo the Volvo lump is bullet proof !

volvo engines are really heavy though.

I've got a 20vt, it's not bad. Very prodictable power. Be aware that not all of them come with the same spec/turbos. The 150bhp lumps (early mk4 golf gti, ibiza cupra etc) have a ko3, the 180bhp (leon, oct vrs, tt) have the ko3s and the 210/225 (LCR, TT, S3) have the ko4.

A chipped ko3 will make around 200nanas (and will feel a bit flat)

A chipped ko3s can make up to 240nanas (although mine only makes around 210)

A chipped ko4 is wicked. Can get over 280bhp and 300lbft. Mans turbo.

If you're starting from scratch though, makes a lot more sense just to turbo an old vw lump, like 8v or the 16v from the mk2. You'll have to ask alex for advice on that though.
