I think that it is because we have become a nation of shopkeepers will the majority having low skill levels.

yup i know exactly what you mean Tom. the one that gets me though is people trying to knock stupid small amounts off. say you'd got something advertised for a tenner then you get a reply saying 'will you take £8?'...whats the fucking point, its far less hassle to send out one piece of folding money than fuck around with coins and change etc.... grumble. The only way they percieve they can make money is to be cheap from Mr A and sell on at a profit to Mr B. We, as Engineers, understand the concept of adding value to make money such as taking raw materials and making a saleable product. Unfortunately manufacturing has become unfashionable and the likes of you and me are becoming rare. I could go on but it would be of little interest to others and I would much rather think about inlet and exhaust pressures and camshsft design etc! i must agree! you have hit it on the head spot on !

Agreed Tom, dont you find it odd though when you advertise some parts with prices, then you get a call saying "What have you got for sale and how much?"
I seriously doubt it! |

the cost people charge for postage on ebay does take the piss, but you do know how much it costs before you bid so if your ot happy then dont bid simple as really. no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

Yeah some people do take the piss. I aim to break even on the postage side. I absorb the pay pal fees on the cost of the item i sell, i see that as part of my costs. |

i do agree with carl, i have seen postage at like 7 quid and its a 25p stamp jobby to get it to me maybe that is why peeps been trying to haggle ya on the postage ? but at the same token i still agree that they knew the terms prior to bid

i always put postage then whoever bids can account for it even if it sometimes does end up on the high side. (some stuff is light but an arse to post).

I agree with Iain. Some times i get it wrong and loose sometimes i end up a bit in pocket. The guy giving me grief just wanted to pay the postage cover price, so i would have lost out on the paypal fees on his postage and the cost of materials. I dont make money on postage. I even tell people when i can get more in a parcel if im using a courier and the limit is upto 10KG and they only have say 6, i'll say you have 4 spare. I try my best to offer a fare deal. |

I think the secret is not telling people you're charging for the paypal cut on the postage - and just hiking it up as part of the packing. |
