ive done some searches and it seems the turbo inlet is the one to use. ive put them both on a head and they foul by quite a bit. has anyone modified the turbo inlet to fit, and is it just a matter of grinding till it fits?

I machined about 4mm off my inlet manifold face to get them to sit right.

Take it too your local machine shop, shouldnt cost much.

I believe that the mirage manifolds are intended to work with a NA MG Metro inlet manifold as opposed to the turbo inlet, which may be why it doesn't fit immediately.

Yes they designed them around the NA model because it is much easier to get hold of .

Mine fit spot on after filing the back of the flanges down to the same width. The more material you keep on the front of the inlet flange the better. i havent touched mine at all, just the two "ears" each side furtherest from the head if you get me.

Mine fitted with no fowling and I use the turbo inlet.

Like the others say - you will need to get the flanges of the inlet taking back to match the mirage flanges - any difference between them will see leaking

just worth mentioning i think that there is a fair amount of variation in the manufacturing of the mirage manifolds (and possibly the inlet?) so i guess some people do get away with it

when i was fitting mine up they was a certain degree of fettling required

yeah, we noticed that mine and dan's both fitted slightly differently. mine had clearance on the inlet whereas his didnt.

I may increase the clearance a shade to help prevent heat transfer *smiley*

You pretty much got it covered there folks.

The manifolds were made to suit the the NA manifold as it is easy to get hold of. The variation in the manifolds is most likely due to them being from different batches. My manufacturer updated his pipe bender about 12 months ago and we have changed the flanges slightly. If you have some pics of were it is close on the turbo manifold i'd like to see them.

This is a picture of where i had to grind to get clearance for the mirage manifold. I also took 2mm off the mating face of the inlet and the remaining 3mm off the back of the flanges. Where I have ground, there is still 3mm wall thickness in the manifold.

sorry to bring up an old thread, but im using a heated cooper inlet manifold and everything seems to fit right and looks ok, the only down side is the difficulty of undo-ing the two centre nuts from above. would it be easier to do with a NA manifold?

I can get to them from the rear with a rachet when the engines out

does everyone iwth a mirage manifold have to take the engien out to do head gasket?

5/16ths unf for the head studs

by a few spare as ive had the heat crack a couple

what i did was drop the engine into place with the manifolds already on this time, already torqued up the studs as per the haynes manual, and have had no blowing prblems so far
