TURBO ME

i've got two trannys one has 5000 mi. and is from an a+ motor
the other has over 50,000 mi but isoff a 1979 998 motor
? do i put the staight cut gears in the a+ tranny with 5000 mi.
or redo the 998 tranny with over 50,000 mi?

It doesn't really make much difference on the mileage front TBH.

If I were you I'd check to see if the 1979 gearbox is A+ or not, I doubt it will be.
In that case, use the A+ gearbox, really you only re-use the casing, selectors and mainshaft anyway.

i really didn't want to touch the a+ tranny because it has only 5,000 mi on it

A+ is the one you want for a turbo appl. mainly because of the larger diameter idler (drop) gear bearings.

My experiance is that the A+ idler are softer ( you should check this Tom) an that the extra leverage the LONG A idler shaft has got compensates for the less diameter. I've seen many times more A+ wrecked idlers than A ones. Myabe coincidence, I think not.

Using standard components maybe, but using S/C drops as most of us do I would always build a gearbox from A+ stuff given the choice.
