The remaining assets of MG Sport & Racing are to go up for auction on March 25. The auction will be held on behalf of the administrators by Wyles Hardy at Groveley Lane, Birmingham (next-door to the Longbridge factory) and bids will also be taken online.

A number of well-known cars are up for auction, including the MG Super 1600 rally car driven by Gwyndaf Evans (estimated at £32,000-£38,000); a 765bhp MG ZT-T estate modified to compete at the Bonneville Salt Flats Speed Trials (est £20,000); a one-off Cosworth-engined MG TF '500' (est £20,000-£25,000); and a unique 480bhp MG ZT V8 built for the Belcup Endurance Race, the last car to be built by MG's Sport and Racing division (est £30,000-£40,000). There's also a prototype MG ZT V8 originally destined for the DTM (German Touring Car) championships (est £10,000-£14,000) and two road-going XPower SV coupes (est £40,000-£60,000).

Wyles Hardy also says that there are many other MG Rover rally and track cars up for grabs, 'most of which are capable of getting a motorsport enthusiast up and running to race or rally for an outlay of just a few thousand pounds... hundreds of lots, from motor show concept cars to memorabilia are being auctioned - you can even buy engine, suspension and bodywork components to modifiy your road-going MG Rover.'

MD Matt Hardy said today: 'This auction provides a historic opportunity for motoring enthusiasts to buy some very unique cars. The lots will make anything from a few pounds to tens of thousands of pounds, giving everybody from the MG Rover enthusiast to a serious car collector something to bid for.'
