I personally think these poly quick release mounts are utter shite! I would not fit them to my lawnmower.

Save your money and buy decent quality standard mounts, or the ones with captive nuts if you prefer them.

im using an internal gearshift, so the slightest movement of the engine will pop it out of gear.

ive tried nearly all of the mounts bar these ones so gonna try them this summer and see if theyre up tot he job or not.

has anyone found the captive nut mounts (solid and rubber) even harder to fit cos the bolts dont line up with the s/frame? i have on all 3 sets ive used. (2 from minispares and 1 from minisport).

had to virtually 'press' my engine into the subframe last time just to get the threads started...

many years ago i have used these captive ones as well,

great idea! but.. you tow your bag out lining the holes up,

you cant get a brodler in to tweek the mountings for fear of damaging the threads.*frown*

these are crap ola as well*frown*

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

I had some poly ones, sold them and got solid ones instead!!

although the miglia has an internal gear change and standard rubber mounts and is fine.

I intend on keeping these i think. Although i may try the solid mounts.

If i dont use the solid ones thats 2 sets of brand new mounts that i will have never fitted!! lol!

I do have 2 rose jointed top steadies, one each side and two rose jointed gearbox steadies. again one each side of the gearbox facing rearwards.

But more importantly, do they keep the engine rigid?

I'd say they get a resounding vote of "shite" but use them if you wish.......

everyone cant be wrong, but ill give them a go as you never know, and its not exactly a hard job when youve got a flip front and a trolly jack.

I make my own "captive nut" ones...

As the holes the in subby vary so much the off the shelf ones dont work well..

Just bolt you engine up and then use a spot of mig to hold it all in place! :)

i use the minispares captive nut jobbys. they were a bitch when they were brand new to line up, had to use a screwdriver to lever em down.

They fly in now that they're 3 years old though *wink*

do the quick release ones not last long is that why theyre shite?

Or is it because with a fixed front end they are hard to get the pins through?

Don't know about the quick release type, but I use solid mounts and it's amazing how much movement the engine has if your top mount has some give.

So, Joeybaby, you problem is likely to be top rather than bottom mounts. As shown by Iain and Jim, rosejointed top steady bars is the way to go.

sorry, didnt meant to give the impression it was popping out of gear, was just mentioning that if the engine moves it would..

ive got the top end sorted (this is on my na rally car now) got avonbar solid poly mounts on the dog bone, and one of those ultimate head steady, this with the minispares solid metal bottom mounts make sit rock solid.

The reason I bought the quick release jobs was that the vibrations (due to the metal mounts is absolutely ridiculous, similar to a ww2 aircraft on take off, so i thought id give them a go. the fact that they are quick release was just a bonus to me.

Everyone so far has said theyre pretty 'shite', im not doubting their opinion one bit, but no one has said why, do they flex? or is it simply the quick release bit is a bit of a gimmick and doesnt work properly? do they break?

Anyway, like i said, its a simple job for me to swap them over, so ill give them a whirl this summer, might try some std mounts too, and see if it makes any difference...

problem solved cheers for the advise. i ordered some genuine ones from minispares.
i compareed them to the cheapos and they looked the same but when i fitted them, then put the engine in it just slotted right in, cool.

I use Poly quick release mounting AND have internal gearchange but do have 3 rose jointed steadies!

Makes engine out a doddle - hated the solid engine mounts - made my teeth fall out. Mind you find out what they are like with slicks tomorrow.
