hey all,

I'm starting to progress with my mini shell!
I've removed the rust from the interior and scrubbed it down!
then I've hammerrited the floor, crossmember, and arches. now I need to primer the whole interior but I was wondering do I need to scrub/key the hammerrite before I primer it?or is it okay to let it dry then primer straight on top?

thanks martin

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

TBH most peeps on here are NOT keen at ALL on hammerite on their cars (me included)*frown*

hence you havent had a good responce to your quirie! Paul

Hammerite is best left to garden fences
(full stop)*wink*

i would rethink your painting Strategy!*wink*

Yes, I am afraid I agree with Ben, the only use for Hammerite os on engine blocks, on most other surfaces it seems to allow water to seep underneath it and rust beneath it!

Also it does not take kindly to being overpainted.

tbh mate, i have done the whole underside of mini in smooth silver and it looks top. the arches i used smooth white then sprayed over the top and that was fine.

no sanding required

I have totallly restored my MG midget about 12 years ago.
after the shotblasting and repairing the panels, I covered the complete underneath in black smooth Hammerite. every year before MOT I have to clean the damaged and chipped spots and hammerite that part again.
I have still a car with the underneath like a fresh painted fence, no rust, no greasy stuff, no mud and no mailbox. I could not be happier.
