Hi, i´m currently rebulding my engine trying to replace everything that is worn.
The head has come from the machine shop new valve guides, new valve seats cuts and valves cleaned and laped.
the bores have no signe of ware
the clutch has new stronger pressure plate and plate
180mm
when removing the cluch cover i´ve realized that the cluch side shim of the idler gear is eating away the cover....????
since helical gears move to the sides how do we sort this problem without buying s/c gears??

thanks for helping

p.s. this is my first rebuild

ps2 how do we set gap of the idler or that is just for s/c?

Bolt the casing to the gearbox with gasket but without the engine and measure with feelers.BEWARE of cheap gaskets as they are too thick

The 'side loading' of the idler is not actually as great a problem as peeps seem to think it is; the axial loads generally cancel out as the force is opposing on each side of the idler. The resultant axial comes from the twisting moment about the axis of the idler. If it is well lubed - this should go a long way to solve the problem.
The difficulty is gettign sufficient, but not too much oil into the area...
I started some analysis on this not too long ago - but need to finish it. Then you'll be able to read about it.... *wink*
