Brand new from M.E.D. 1,500miles ago. (1,000miles run in.)

1380cc.

Omega forged pistons.

Cooper 's' polished + balanced con-rods, ARP bolts.

Cooper 's' Bladed, wedged, lightened + balanced crank.

8Port 296 Kent cam.

Alloy push-rods.

8Port full-roller rockers.

Arden 8Port alloy head, Ported and polished.

S/C Drop gears 1:1 ratio.

A.P. rally clutch plate.

Ultra-light M.E.D. flywheel.

S/C full syncro gear box.

Mini-Spares X-pin diff.

3:44 Diff ratio.

This engine is a very serious piece of kit, for use on road or track. It is very, very fast. It is not like any normal 'hot' A-series as it has loads of torque and is very easy to drive as an every day car. It will quite happily pull from 2,000rpm (40mph ish?) in 4th to max rpm with no hesitation!

I have a dyno sheet that shows 165bhp for this engine.

The S rods are needed as the cam is different in an 8 port so that the big end does'nt hit the cam lopes.

It is the ally push rods i wonder about?

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

tubular pushrods would easily be strong enough i reckon, obviously with hard ends.

carbon ones are available and believe many people use them.

Ive posted it on here for a m8. He's been adding up his bills n decided he has spent far too much on it so he cant afford to keep it.

He ran it at Evington a few weeks ago, unfortunatly it was snowing and was very windy which dusnt really mix with slick tyres but was getting times around 15.4. Which was beating Starlet turbos, Vauxhall Monaro's, Nissan Skylines...

Beverley. East Yorkshire.

Hi there this is my engine.
I am selling it because i am after more power and grip. i was either goin to turbo the 8port or go for something different. I am going for a Z-cars 2L Type-R conversion. I wish i had decided on this route before i started with the 8-port!
I have found my rolling road print out, it says 152bhp, not 165bhp, sorry.
It is should be fast-15.4s@elvington drag strip - It was snowing-very little grip! Its just with a more power i think rear wheel drive will be a benifit!?

Alloy push rods do just fine, carbon ones only break because the catch on shap bits of the block, if it has not been prepered properly first.

177 'S'con-rods are the only ones that will fit an 8port engine, as all others would hit the cam. An 8port has different timing to a 5porter.

I like lots of noise and the smell of burning rubber and petrol... Is this normal?

minimr man , thanks for clearing a couple of important points and good luck with the sale,
tangoracer may i ask how old you are and what the atmosphere is like on your planet ,clearly you have never visited planet Earth and our poor attempts at drag racing .
you would need 3x the power to run near a 10 sec 1/4.

carl Austin.

edit "steel alloy" push rods ?? .

rolling road print out mmm!, which one ???

You don't have to run the S rods although everybody says you must!!!
Chris's 8 port never had them and it was fine.????????? and the basic engine still is. We did however have to do some fine tuning to the corner of a rod bolt..
*laughing*

The guy with the titanium pushrods, haven't seen him in ages! Was a drag racer like Carl, very single minded machine, but road legal*surprised*

Ok, i should have said, only 177 'S' con-rods would fit my engine with my 296 cam. Different cams need different rods. We looked at taking a bit off the rod-bolt/rod, but it would have made it to weak for the amout that would have needed to be removed.
