*tongue*
i am in france atm, been working for the past week hear (changing a roof on a barn to house conversion) we have finished now and i found a dial up conection (oh the good old days!) anyways through bordom i have been doing a lot of thinking and 1.6 vauxhall engine popped into my mind (yes for the mini you nova haters*tongue*) and wonderd if there is much room left for a turbo does anyone know? i know dave done the conversion on a mini has anyone else done it or seen a finished one? i will look more into it when i dont have frustrating 56k to fight with (i have even turned the pictures off to make it faster lol) but the bigest question is is there room for a turbo? i know someone that has a ahem *nova* with the 1.6 gte/gsi engine and he runs a T2, so i know they can work with turbos i also know of a place that sell the manifolds and low CR pistons etc at what i consider a reasonable price :) any info on this would be great also a rough price on what the conversion cost (the subframe etc) and also dificulty compared to turbo A-series? i will do more searching when i get home but any info from you will be helpfull :)
main reason is for reliability btw more than pure bananramas but if you can then why not :)

thanks! Dan

thanks for the reply dave, verry excited now. i have sent an email to the guy that sells the manifolds to 'nova people' asking for a pic of the manifold i it was about year ago i asked him for a price on T2s and he said he would make manifolds for the a-series but he couldent come within £100 of mirage ones including postage. but brand new T2s for £300 deliverd i thought was pretty good iirc mirage T2s are £350. i think £160 i think was the price for the c16se manifold.
thanks, i will go do lots more research and let you all know how it goes :)

Yer pays yer money....

That sounds too cheap for 321 (best) or even 304 (JUST suitable)stainless manifold... If you'd have said double that i'd be less suspicious, but that is too cheap.

Some more pics for you:

This was with the engine just dropped in - but with the 'too large' twin downpipe manifold.

And this is the finished article:

this is the exact email he sent me, it sounds verry cheep, but is it too cheep? what questions should i ask to make sure of quality etc, is carbon steel up to it? he is in brazil if that might make a difference to price (available materials to him cheeper or something?) i dont expect you to say yes its good or no its bad but just to give me an idea would be great.

My C16SE turbo manifold have around 170mm of distante from head flange to turbine flange. With this distance, you can have idea if will fit or not on your car.

The MVaux C16SE turbo kit includes and cost below:

-Turbo Tubular carbon Steel C16SE manifold £160
-Oil flange pipe for bolt in turbocharger(oil-out system) £8
-Oil flange nipple for bolt in turbocharger(oil-in system) £8
-T2 series Turbocharger with internal wastegate £280
-Braided pipe for oil £20
-Niple for oil feed in oil pump £8
-Oi metal pipe for steel sump: £8
-Oil return hose for connect oil pipe of turbo to oil pipe of sump £8
-Elbow flange £20
-Commom dump valve nice sound and visual: £30
-Special AFPR(two fuel setups, special made for get a engine turboed using the standard management system. You can configure a perfect fuel demand before and after boost): £48

Total cost of parts: £598
Postage cost to UK: £79
Bank transfer cost(is a feed that i pay to my bank for receive your mone in my account): £10

Final cost for arrive in door of your house: £687

Anymore doubts, ask to me.

what about import tax is this guaranteed everytime and does anyone know at what rate?

thanks for any advice or pointers on what to mail back :)

Carbon steel is just mild steel.

May be up to it? But stainless would be better.

I note it doesn't say Garrett T2 turbo charger... Which suggests it's a POS chinese copy.

As Tom suggested - that manifold is not suitable. Sure - it'll work, for a few months at least. 304 is the minium grade stainless to consider for a turbo manifold; 321 grade is the best.
If i were you - I'd get some form of CAD software, and draw up the exhaust manifold flange in CAD, along with the T2 turbine flanges (intake and outlet). Then take the whole car to an exhaust fabricator like the one Jimster has used, also hand over the disc, and leave him to do the job.

Basically - you need to budget for £300-£450 for a complete custom manifold and downpipe. If it's less than this; then someone isn't doing what they should be doing - and alarm bells should start ringing.

best i can find on compression ratio of the engine is 9.8:1 ...
any thoughts? can i run a safe but low ish boost on this or is it strongly advisable to lower it some more (maybe i can loose some head material i expect) i know the metro turbo is 9.4:1 and i run 7psi with no IC safley. but i am unsure how sensitive they are to that small increase?

thanks. Dan

More general C16se info....

This covers pretty much everything you need for the conversion.
