Got a bit of a dilema, my engine is still on standard size fixings, thats ok as i got a full box of unbrako cap screws for attaching it to the gearbox.

problem is the gearbox i'm attaching it to has been modded to have the 5/16 bolts *angry*

now, do i tap the block? change the gearbox casing? make some sleeves? get some special bolts?

other thing is do i mask the block and tap it assembled or rip it down first?

I'm thinking the easiest option is to change the gearbox casing, i'm changing the FD in it anyway so it will be partly in pieces.

Choices choices, and i just wanted this back on the road asap!!

I'd change the casing, it's an easy job. And then it'll fit on any other block you want in the future.

My opinion is to change the casing... Lots will want the box in its current state. I've never understood the need to make them 5/16".
There is no hard evidence whatsoever to say that it's neccesary - and like Peter says, the casing is theoetically weaker as there is redued section arround the bosses where the holes are...

casing change was what i was thinking to be honest.

BTW i'll be knocking out kits of Unbrako cap head bolts in 1/4 unf including the bolts, one locknut, small washer for the bolts and big washer for the nut and bolt when i get the last batch bolts. they had the long ones but not the short ones.

Think for a full proper kit it will be around £8 posted.
