Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

blank it *smiley*

even better, get a remote housing, gain some space for the intercooler and fit elsewhere *smiley*

gotta blank it, very important on engines which munch their gearboxes/cams often. Minispares sell a grub screw to plug it up, but i cant find it now.

I've seen the future and tbh its Pie

Definately blank it, i was amazed at how weak the spring was so must allow quite a bit of unfiltered oil past. The high oil pressures when the oil is cold must easily open it.

What is this mod?

I've had trouble with the valve sticking open before, loosing me all oil pressure. But never knew there was a mod.

The valve you are thinking of wil is the oil pressure relief valve, loacted under the big hex cap just below where the oil pressure gauge take off is on the block.

The valve these boys are on about is the little ball bearing poppet valve that is located actually in the oil filter head. If you look at one you can see a ball bearing that is spring loaded, if the filter blocks up sufficiently, this lifts off its seat and basically allows the filter to be bypassed! Not ideal for our applications at all!

I must admit I knew this was there but it had never occured to me to block it off. I can see the reasoning behind why you may do so though, although I will be changing the oil and filter so often I may not bother.

the problem comes when you start the engine on a cold day and it bypasses due to the viscocity of the oil. Thia apparently happens on nearly every cold start regardless of the condition of the filter.

That is another issue - for very cold climates , you can in theory build up ridiculous pressures that could cause pump damage, burst the housing - or even worse - burst the internal of the filter sending all manner of crud towards the main bearings.

In short - don't live in siberia and use 20/50w oil with this mod...

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

the thinking behind the leyland engineers was
if the filter becomes blocked the bearings still recieve oil, some oils better than none!

even if it may be contaminated.

like you all say you have got to change the filter & oil frequentley.

i would mod yours tom.

thats my next little job.

leyland did a oil filter with a magnet in the filter to stop the metal in the oil going round the engine i think the part number of the filter was GFE21
