Hi chaps! Am ready to start putting my engine back together, im thinking of working from the bottom up so the gearbox is first on the hit list!

Im going to get the box re-built with a COPU and S/C drops, and then buy a mini spares 4-pin diff and fit that myself, i think that'll be enough for the spec going through it.

The magical question is who is going to do the work for me?! I dont want to do the work myself and I want a pro to get it right so i dont have to pull it out after a couple of k!

I have emailed morspeed for a quote but its been a few days now and no reply so am contemplating the possibility of getting the work done elsewhere. Can anyone reccomend a company/person who from experience and quality of work would advise me to try? How about Avonbar/Minispeed etc etc

all views would be brilliant, thanks again

My opinion - Two guys:

Icklemini (aka Dave Yardy)
Hogster (aka Richard Greaves)

Each do good work - and can be considered as good - maybe better - as the work you'd get from any engine builder... Especially in attention to detail.
Certainly, these are the ONLY two chaps I would trust to work on my transmission (aside from myself)...

Both are registered here - so take your pick.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

right dont mess about! Whatsoever!! *wink*

PM Tom Fenton, hes the guy.*wink*

i would also opt for a minispares S/C clubman gearset.

as the ratios are "very" close to the Turbo metro challange ratios and this will compliment your engine no end.

it puts a shade more on the price But.... you will then have an excellent box worthy over many miles and years.

What about me then Dave? I rebuilt a gearbox in 1998 and it still is in one piece. Honest!

Dave Yardy gets my vote too, he built mine and keans gearboxes and they are top notch. Mine will be going back down to him again for a check over next time the engines apart aswell.

no not yet but cant wait untill they are and left home.

and before any one asks ive left the cental oil pick up pipe bolt out for a reason , i always leave this to the customer to fit as if it falls out then it aint my fault!.

but nice to meet you wolfie and hope to see you soon.

also dont forget you need a transfer gasket of at least 31 thou to get your idler endfloat right but if you cant get one then you need at least a blue shim but they are a bugger to get hold of and are about £20 each.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

I have a spare blue shim if needed, fell into the crap gasket trap and thought I needed 2 off, turns out when I measured it with one blue installed the endfloat with a good gasket was then correct.
But yes they are damm expensive, approx £24 each!

A note on the oil pipe bolt, I like to use a binx (all metal) type locking nut in this application, just to be sure, as if using a nyloc then the oil could cause the insert to degrade over time.
