We have an analysis software that is installed onto several machines across the company network - across four different sites: UK, USA, India and Brazil.
We have one and one only 'floating license'.

There are various reasons why, but it'd be VERY usefull to track which computer / user has the licence at the current time.

The IT folks say it's plain impossible to do this - but I get the feeling they just try baffling us with gobbledeegook and could actually establish a way to do this, if they weren't so damn lazy / inept...

So - am i asking the impossible? If not- give me an example of how they could do this that i can 'suggest' they should try, thereby embarring them into actually earning their money...*laughing*

Cheers,
D

depending on how the floating licence works, and where its installed, but i wouldnt say its impossible. Depending on how your network is setup and if VPN's are used, it'll be possible to 'log' who connects when and if the licence is installed on a server and the clients connect, its possible to log access to that file too.

Bit tricky to exactly yes or no as it all depends on how your setup, but nothings impossible.
