When I got my turbo Mini, the heater was hanging down on the clutch pedal. I made two brackets, drilled holes, and screwed my new longer brackets to the original ones. When I drove the car, I barely got it warmed up and it shut off. I thought I ran out of gas but it only took about 1 gallon. So then I thought the fuel pump isn't working so I took off the hose at the carb and put it into a tin can and cranked the engine. Nothing coming through. But now I couldn't hear the fuel pump like I used to so I thought maybe power isn't getting to it. I traced the wire from the pump and dont you know when I screwed on my new heater brackets, I squashed the fuel pump wire so I loosened up the screw and I saw that the wire was indeed damaged so I thought I found my problem Spliced a new piece of wire in but still no gas pumping when I cranked the engine. I cut the wire where it had been damaged and ran a long wire now from my fuel pump back to the pos terminal of the battery and the pump did make some noise but not the usual ticking. Rewired it to the front and nothing again. What did I do? Could I have shorted out the pump? Slobo "Stick your foot in it" |

Sounds a simple question but have you checked for an inline fuse somewhere?

I didn't think so but I just doublechecked. No there is no inline fuse. The wire does eventually end up in a small green box with about 5 other wires each with their own fitting. Is this a relay? I don't know what it is. It is in the corner of the engine bay closest to the driver(RHD). Slobo "Stick your foot in it" |

Jimmy, is that little green box the relay? Could that have gone bad? How do I order a new one and get the right one? And from who? Thanks, Slobo "Stick your foot in it" |

OK, its fixed. I checked my fuse box right away and the bottom three fuses are glass and I could see that they were good but the top fuse is BS1362 made in England and you can not see inside it. Well after Tom told me to check for an inline fuse that made so much sense that I changed the top fuse just to be sure and sure enough that was it. The pump wire doesn't go to the fuse box but someting must. Thanks again for all the help. "Stick your foot in it" |

Jimmy, that relay and another one are just laying loose there in the engine compartment. Should they be loose or should I tape them up or what? Slobo

I'm wondering why your fuel pump 'clicks' what pump is it out of interest? Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

OK, to answer these questions, my fuel pump is now working and not clicking. I thought I heard it click before but it just sort of hums. My problem was the top fuse in the fuse box. Thanks for all the help. Slobo "Stick your foot in it" |
