Hmmm - Usually turbos will blow a puff of smoke at startup from the turbine housing seal. Compressor housing seal is easy to determine by the presence of oil in the intercooler pipes or plenum.

If the turbo has a lot of oil 'seepage' around itself, this is another suggestion it's the turbo itself.

Have a closer inspection.

Well ...... I hate to say it, but maybe you need to delve into the engine?

Hi there,
I had the exact same problem with mine and it would happen in the same stop start intervals you describe.

My car had a rebuilt engine and turbo.
I found that it was a turbo problem for me when i took the turbo off and chucked on just a plan old carby and exhaust and ran without turbo. My engine was sweet.
I went to the turbo specialist and he looked at my turbo but could not figure out what was wrong until he saw my oil return pipe and said it was too restrictive and the oil wasnt escaping the turbo fast enough therefore the oil was seeping out through the inlet and exhaust of the turbo.
Also my oil feed pipe was done in fexi hose that was alittle large in diameter copmpared to the standard metro steel pipe.
So i set to work to make my turbo oil return pipe larger and least restrictive by making a new one along with a new smaller oil feed pipe....which is smaller than standard metro steel pipe.

Meanwhile i was still running the car anyway...before i got around to making these up grades a gearbox bearing spat the dummy!
It stuffed everything...the motor is not healthy but with a new oil pump its ok, turbo rebuilt 2nd time this time with 2nd hand parts not new, rebuilt gearbox and have changed the turbo feed to solely filtered oil supply by doing a few mods.
Have fitted the redesigned oil return pipe and small feed pipe and now all is fine...no more smoking!

So i think you may have a turbo or turbo oil return/feed pipe problem. Hope my bad experience can be of use to you!

Check oil pressure before delving any further. Turbo's will usually show signs of 'seepage' between the centre housing and the turbine and compressor housings if they are at fault...
